Real Wedding, Le Talbooth, Essex – Rebecca and Samuel

Rebecca and Sam set their date for their wedding day at Le Talbooth in Essex.  For me, the best way to describe their day in a nutshell is unsurpassed thoughtfulness.   Attention to detail was given to every aspect of their wedding day.  There were so many individual touches that really made their wedding intimate and unique.

The Wedding Planning

After Sam’s proposal in Thailand in November 2015, they got cracking onto the wedding planning.

The Venue – Le Talbooth

With the natural beauty of the River Stour as it’s canvas, Le Talbooth is one of the foremost wedding venues in Colchester.  Then they had the added bonus of Milsom Weddings acting as their host.  With their multitude of experience and list of professional recommended suppliers; Rebecca and Samuel’s wedding planning was off to a great start!

“The venue itself is absolutely stunning (even in the rain) and we knew we could do as little or as much as we wanted and it would still look amazing. That combined with the amazing reputation the restaurant has for luxurious cuisine, and the odd glass of champagne thrown in, just confirmed to us that this was it.”

Outside Le Talbooth Essex Wedding Venue

Lighting and Décor at Le Talbooth with Dreamwave Events

“Also with Le Talbooth, one of the main things that really drew us even more to the venue, was that Dreamwave was one of their recommended suppliers.  I love a good Instagram stalk and as soon as I had a proper browse, I knew that Dreamwave would be able to make our wedding even more special.  I knew they could take our wedding to the next level.  The whole team  just “got” what we were going for and could not have been more helpful in recommending ideas of their own.”

Dreamwave did the whole entrance walkway and full marquee ceiling in beautiful fairy lights (a must in my opinion if you get married at Le Talbooth – even during the day they looked so pretty).  They also supplied our S&R letter lights, the monogram dance floor sticker and  uplighters – they were simply incredible!!

“Many people recommended that I download Pinterest, as it would really help me find some ideas that were slightly different and out of the ordinary.  One thing that I saw that I loved, was a lot of American weddings had these graphics on the dance floor; that suddenly became a must have for the wedding.  I had never seen any pictures of weddings in Essex that had done this before.  This made me want it even more as I felt like it was totally unique and original to us.  When we approached Dreamwave with my idea they were so helpful and asked what design we were thinking of and straight away I knew that the guest book design with our monogram would look amazing.  On the day, nearly every guest said to me how amazing the dancefloor looked, and it was a real wow factor, in my opinion.”

The Dress

Rebecca had a clear idea of what her wedding dress was going to look like and traipsed the dress shops on a mission to find it.  After a few bad experiences she found “the one” at Amorae in Ongar.

“Like any girl I had spent hours leading up to the appointment looking at the website and picking out my favourites.  I tried one of them on first – lets just say it wasn’t the one! That’s when Maria at the shop said  “can I pick a dress for you”.  Now I need to set the scene here; my family and I were in a big room with a whole mirrored wall, and in one corner was a small space with a curtain that went around where you got into the dresses.  As Maria was zipping me into this dress, without even seeing myself in the mirror, I knew that this was it.  When I saw myself in the mirror, the tears started.  I loved the way it fitted my body; the traditional lace; subtle sparkle and beading – everything was perfect.  I really felt like the best version of myself.   I saw myself marrying Sam in this dress -my dress.  It was love at first sight”

Personal Touches

“We really wanted the wedding to look timeless and elegant and that really drove all of our choices when planning and selecting for the wedding.  Sam always wanted to wear black tie and I have always loved the idea of bridesmaids in black and my dress pure white.  Like any couple we wanted our wedding to be personal to us, whilst remaining traditional.  After we found the venue and church we found an amazing stationer, Jacqui at Print for LoveShe had this beautiful wedding set named the Hayworth.  That’s where the biggest and only theme you may say came from – S&R.”

“The thing on the day that I was most proud of was my order of service at the church.  Due to my performing background, a family friend suggested that I should do it like a program you would get at a West End show.  I created the whole thing myself, including a ‘Who’s who in our wedding party’, fun facts about both myself and Sam along with some embarrassing childhood photos, ‘from our first date to our wedding day’ .  I also included a few pages of our favourite photos telling the story of our four years together, and so much more – it had 20 pages!  It was my pride and joy.  However, my favourite thing of all, although time consuming, was when they all arrived from the printers  I wrote inside each service book an individual hand written message to each guest from us both that was totally unique for each person. They went down an absolute treat, everyone loved them!!”

The Day of the Wedding, Le Talbooth

The Ceremony

After a hearty family meal at Milsoms Restaurant in Dedham with the family, Rebecca managed to get a good nights sleep before her wedding day in preparation for her wedding day…Eeeek!  Initially the morning was very calm – with a bottle of champagne to help Rebecca, her mum and her three bridesmaids get ready, everyone felt relaxed.

“I still think even then that it hadn’t really sunk in that I was getting married… it was only when it was time to get in my dress, that that all changed. Suddenly the room got very hot and I remember actually saying to Chris (my lovely videographer) “Oh my god, im actually getting married, I think I am going to be sick”.  This is not because I had any regrets, I just suddenly felt this wave of overwhelming emotion, and in that moment i realized that this was it – I was getting married!  In the car to the church, my dad held my hand and told me how happy he was that I was marrying Sam, it was a moment I will never forget.”

“Arriving at the church, was a blur and before I knew it, the bridesmaids had left me and it was just me and my mum standing at the doors of the church, waiting for the Bridal Chorus to start. As the music started, we both shed a few tears and then it all becomes a real blur. Walking down the aisle, all I wanted to do was focus on Sams face, I don’t remember even seeing anyone else and I know it sounds cheesy but even in that big church surrounded by over one hundred people, it really felt like we were the only two people in the room.”

The Wedding Breakfast, Le Talbooth

Rebecca and Sam worked so hard to make their wedding day into their vision.  Every detail was thought about and it really showed in all aspects of the day.  I loved the personal touches included.  Using Dreamwave’s Complete Wedding Day DJ and Lighting Hire Services meant that we were providing background music during the Wedding Breakfast.  Their entrance song into the Marquee was West Ham’s “I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles” for her soon to be husband (I might add that Sam begged for something West Ham to be included throughout the wedding day – which Rebecca did politely decline!).  I loved that Rebecca’s dad took on the Master of Ceremonies role – for me, its these subtle points that make the day intimate.

“When we arrived to Le Talbooth in our vintage Rolls Royce,  Dan (our photographer) whisked us quickly into the marquee so we could see it before it was filled with our friends and family but also so he could get some great photos of us, whilst the marquee was empty.   I always had a strong picture in my mind of what I wanted the marquee to look like.  In preparation for the wedding, I am sure Sams neck must of ached for the continuous nodding and agreeing to all of my ideas.  I don’t think he was actually listening to me most of the time – typical man!  When we saw the marquee for the first time on the day, he could not of been more thrilled and loved every little detail, most of which I am surprised that he even picked up on.  Another personal touch that Sam also loved, was instead of table names, we marked each table number with photos of us at that particular age.  I loved seeing all of my hard work come together.  It was incredible and it actually looked better than I even imagined it would.”

The Flowers

“Our flowers were beautiful, I always said the bigger the better and Stacey from Designer Flowers Essex certainly did not disappoint. My bouquet was made of pure white lisianthus and hydrangea.  Inside the marquee Stacey added roses, peonies and several types of foliage complete with hanging candles.  We also had four separate arrangements to frame both entrances to the marquee.  Lanterns and candles lined the steps down to the lawn and not to mention our beautiful floral frame for the table plan, which was another must for the day.”

The Cake

“Our five tier wedding cake was from Cookie Delicious.  I designed it alongside Amy and it was a complete original design in pure white.  I loved the individual handmade flowers and damask pattern.   It tasted just as good as it looked, from chocolate to lemon to the traditional fruit cake, every tier was yummy!”

Stationary and Social Media

Print for Love created all of our table plan, menu cards and place cards continuing on from our invitation design – for the day we created two personalised snapchat geofilters for our guests to use and Jacqui also created special cards to go on each table to inform guests of how to use them and to use or hashtag #meetthemccarthys when posting any photos on social media.

This is where I have some advice to my fellow brides –

“Try to relax and enjoy the wedding breakfast.  I mean don’t get me wrong,  everything was stunning and that combined with the music, the room just had a real buzz and electricity.  However, I couldn’t help but find myself looking around during the starters, trying to make sure everyone was having a good time, when really I should have concentrated on myself and my new husband.  Sam read me like a book and seeing I was a tad overwhelmed, he whisked me outside to have a quiet moment.  Everyone had told me to enjoy every second; but sometimes I found myself trying to take every moment in that I wasn’t actually being in the moment – if that makes sense.  After our quick team chat outside, I was back in the game, with a glass of pink champagne in hand and we were going round from table to table mingling with our guests – a brilliant suggestion from my husband.”

The Evening Party for the Wedding, Le Talbooth

For the evening party, Rebecca and Sam were not afraid to play it modern with energised décor and contemporary pink up-lighting that punctuate perfectly with the warm golden traditional elements.

“The evening part of the wedding just flew by.  My bridesmaid Maddy and school friends surprised us both with the most amazing wedding present; it was a compilation video of lots of our friends singing along to different parts of ‘a town called malice’ – the reason why this song is a long story!  It was so thoughtful and it tied so many incredible, funny moments that I had shared with my friends together.  It is something I will never forget – plus I now have a copy at home.”

The First Dance

Then it was our first dance…  from day one we always had a song – ‘Just the way you are’ by Barry White.  This came around after a drunken dance at a party when we first got together. However we were also keen on  ‘Love’ by Nat King Cole, which I normally dance around the kitchen whilst cooking dinner.  For our first dance we really struggled with which one to go with and decided on the first.  Much to Sams surprise on the day, I actually had my friend mix the two together – I will never forget his face when the track changed and everyone started singing along. Our first dance was so special to us and it was by far my favourite moment of the day.  I then shared a dance with my dad.  My favourite film is ‘Father of the Bride’ and the theme tune is ‘Just the way you look tonight’.  Like any father and daughter, we have a very special relationship and it is something I will treasure forever.

The Party!

“And then the party started!! Before the big day we had to send Dreamwave over a list of the running of the day, plus a list of any “must plays” for the evening.  Me and Sam love music.  You will always find my friends and family on the dance floor till the end of the party.  We are normally the ones being asked to leave!  I just have to say that Darren (our DJ) certainly did not disappoint.  The next day we had a million messages and nearly everyone said “OMG how amazing was your DJ!?” Darren definitely added so much to our special day.  I mean, what’s a wedding without a good party!?  The dance floor was packed from start to finish, from the young to the old, everyone was having such a great time.  In true fashion nobody wanted it to be over, to the point where one of my best friends stood on our S&R floor sticker and said “NO, you cannot take this off until we have all left!” – sorry about that Dreamwave!!

Before we knew it, it was the next morning, the dress was in a heap on the floor, I had a slight headache, and it was all over.  I remember laying there thinking, how was that yesterday!?  I have never known a day to go by so fast and I don’t think I ever will again. It goes without saying that it really was the best day ever and we cannot wait to spend the rest of our lives together as Mr and Mrs McCarthy!”

Advice to future Bride and Grooms

“The most important advice I can give is to surround yourself with people who you love and trust.  This is by far the biggest day of your life and everyone from your bridesmaids, to the groomsmen, to the florist, photographer, should get that and be there to support you.  If anything, all of these people are bringing something very special to your day, so try to bear that in mind when selecting who you go with.

Please believe me when I say this will the best day of your life, whether it rains or you have glorious sunshine, try to remember that actually none of it really matters, all that matters is you are marrying the love of your life and that this is your special day, no one else’s.”

Bridal Blog Name Drop – Levi and Steve

Levi and Steve took a shot and tied the knot on 7th September 2017.  Their celebrations continued at Maison Talbooth for their Drinks Reception and continued at Le Talbooth in Essex for their Wedding Breakfast and Evening Party.  But there is another side to Levi that we didn’t know about;  she is a writing enthusiast! Dreamwave Events came across Life as Levi on the web.  She has been keeping her blog updated recently with her nursing, wedding and travel larks.   Her wedding blog details the lead up to her wedding and, of course, the wedding day itself plus and most importantly, the suppliers that helped make it all happen!

“We arrived to people enjoying pimms, prosecco and canapés. Our marquee was beautifully decorated by the venue and vendors. ” (source: lifeaslevi.com)

Dreamwave’s Input

Levi approached us wanting to use our lighting hire services at Le Talbooth for her Wedding Breakfast and Evening Party.

“The company deal with a large range of lighting; whether you want classic fairly lights to fan the roof of a marquee, rustic festoon lighting or something unique such as hanging lamps then they are the company to talk to. After our first contact with Dreamwave they were really helpful. We were invited to a meeting where they discussed any visual ideas we had and then suggested different props and lighting to match our theme. If they didn’t have something in their collection then they would try and source it from elsewhere.

We decided to go classic and have fairly lights for our marquee, light up poseur tables around our bar,  and party lights for our dance floor.

The people at Dreamwave are great to work with and do their best to bring your theme or ideas to life.” (source: Lifeaslevi.com)

What did Levi and Steve Book with Dreamwave?

To decorate the marquee Levi and Steve opted for Fairy Lights at Le Talbooth.  These were arranged around the entrance walkway legs and set to a fan shape internally down both ends of the marquee.  These were both complemented beautifully by warm glowing Poseur Tables positioned in the bar area.  Details of these services can be found in our specifically designed Le Talbooth Lighting and Décor Brochure.

Le Talbooth Summer Barbeque 2017

Le Talbooth in Essex is once again hosting its famous Summer Barbeque sizzler.  Personally, I love barbeque.  Its one of my all time favourite food to eat.  It simply screams summer!    Combine the perfect summers evening by the river, a flow of refreshing drinks, comforting barbeque food whilst listening to the Steel Band and one of our Dreamwave DJ’s mixing your favourite beats in the marquee; you  have the unequalled formulae for a smashing evening!  After all, “When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor.  It’s to enjoy each step along the way.” (Wayne Dyer)

Le Talbooth Summer Barbeque

You can’t buy happiness – but you can barbeque!

Us and the Milsoms team are looking forward to seeing you on Sunday 27th August to satisfy your urges for delicious and fabulously prepared cuisine in the splendour of Le Talbooth’s mesmerising setting.

Drinks Reception Entertainment and Music for your Wedding

You have just got married and can now officially change your Facebook status!… It’s now time for the your Drinks Reception.  I think most people want their Drinks Reception to be chilled and fun.  After all, t’s the first informal part of the wedding day where the wedding party can have a drink and a good natter post ceremony.  Guests can take a sip of their prosecco, enjoy their surroundings whilst chilling out to fabulous Drinks Reception Entertainment.

Drinks Reception Entertainment

How to choose the perfect Drinks Reception Entertainment to reflect your afternoon vision

What is going to keep your guest engaged whilst the wedding party are off modelling for your perfect wedding shots?  Who will be able to play the right style of music your looking for and generate the desired atmosphere?

Drinks Reception Entertainment, Hengrave Hall

Photo (above) providing Drinks Reception Music at Hengrave Hall.

Cocktail DJ for the Cocktail Hour

So, the classic option are Harpists, acoustic guitarists, jazz singers, saxophonists and string quartets.  But what if you want Drinks Reception Entertainment that’s a little bit different?  Our Cocktail DJ Service offers just that.  Have a DJ play your choice of music at suitable background level using a small, discreet and clean set up that wont distract whilst your guests mingle.  Your Dreamwave DJ can play anything you choose including Acoustic, Hed Kandi, Blues, Ibiza chilled and Jazz to name a few.  I myself like the sound and tempo of acoustic versions of popular songs.  Personally, I think the musical flexibility of the Cocktail DJ Service  is an absolute gem as it allows you to play any genre you fancy at a reasonable price.  You could even up the level further by having him perform alongside a live saxophonist!

See us in action on the lawn in the sun at Le Talbooth:

Drinks Reception Music on a Budget?

I always wish my purse had free refills! Weddings can certainly prove expensive and not every Bride and Groom can afford live entertainment for the whole day.  To me, an obvious saving can be made by putting together your own play list and plug it into either the venue’s PA system or hire one.  The disadvantage of this is that you wont have a live entertainer to captivate the Drinks Reception audience.  But this is a great option for those on a stricter monetary allocation.

Another option is to look at extending your entertainment from the Wedding Ceremony for a couple of hours.  This will most likely prove far cheaper than hiring separate musicians.

 Drinks Reception Entertainment Maison Talbooth

Music is not the only option……

Magicians

I have seen these at a number of weddings I have attended recently to keep the guests smiling.

Entertainment for Children

If your inviting children to your wedding, look to avoid bored little people by hiring a face painter or balloon modeller.

Lawn Games

Giant lawn games are a classic option to charm your wedding guests.

Lighting

Enhance your sought after atmosphere by adding lighting and décor.  Additional lighting is fantastic for an Evening Drinks Reception.  Options include Fairy Lighting, Lanterns, Festoon Lighting and LED Candles.

Christmas Lighting Hire – Fairy Lights

Festive Fairy Lights – Bring Festive Brilliance and Animation to your Christmas Party or Wedding.

Chirstmas Fairy Lights

As we are entering the season of everything sparkly, I thought it would be appropriate to write up about our twinkly fairy lights that will glisten and glow bringing a festive flare to any Christmas themed wedding or party.

Whether you are aiming to bring subtle brightening outside or a warm ambient glow to the indoor furnishings; nestling fairy lights into the any party venues fixtures will radiate refinement adding the shimmer and shine and enriching the festive mood.

Indoor Fairy Lighting

Fairy Lighting - wraping of Beams

You can ignite the Christmas Party cheer with warm illumination and merry sparkle. Decorate your windowsills with our Fairy Lighting and LED Candles bringing a hearty feel to the room.

Furthermore, you could enhance features by draping in fireplaces or wrapping beams aspects (pictured right)

Rather than having a vivid affect, you may wish the fairy lighting to command the room with  Fairy Light Backdrops or Canopies.

Fairy Lighting Canopy - BarnBackdrops look fantastic behind you evening entertainment and wedding cake or it makes a perfect accompaniment that brings that additional finesse to your weddings top table décor.

My personal favourite is the effect of Canopy Lights.   This lighting décor looks amazing in barn structures and marquees completing the room with the perfect incandescence they generate.

Outdoor Fairy Lighting

A solution to providing outdoor lights for wedding and party guests is to ignite outdoor features with the addition of Fairy Lights.  This will give your guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy the evening.  Options for this include illuminating garden borders such as foliage, trees or fencing.  Another may be path walkways to distinguish an approach or entrance.

Congratulations to our own Dave & Hayley…

I am sure this Blog has been eagerly awaited. I would like to personally send our congratulations to our very own Dave & Hayley (the new Mr & Mrs Drane!) They were married on 23rd May 2009 at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Clacton on Sea, followed by the wedding breakfast and evening reception at Le Talbooth in Dedham.

The whole day was magnificent and could not have run smoother. Dave & Hayley had spent many, many months planning every last detail (and it showed!).

They both would like to extend their thanks out to the selected suppliers within the wedding industry who made their day even more special.

They have these messages for them….

Abigail’s collection:

“The high standard of service and professional planning from Abi, Rob & Lauren made our brides maids look stunning and the guys very dapper indeed. Thank you”

A-Team Heroes:

“Thank you for fulfilling a childhood dream of riding in the A-Team Van! The trip from my parents house, through the town centre, then to the church will stay with me forever. A great touch!”

American Dreams:

“Thank you to Roy with his 1959 Fleetwood Cadillac. It really was a head turner”

Bunce Video:

“Warren & Debbie are honestly amazing at what they do. They videoed our day in such a way that we did not even know they were there. However when we watch our DVD back. They did not miss a thing! Thank you”

Calanthus Floral Design:

“Chris your extensive knowledge of flowers and enthusiasm was great. Your ‘quirky’ designs and ‘funky ‘ feel with the arrangements were just what we imagined. Everyone commented on how outstanding the flowers were!”

Craig Williams Photography:

“What can we say!?! We are both truly speechless with our wedding pictures! The hard work and attention to detail Craig and Kate put in when they are taking photos really does shine through. We are both proud to be close friends with you and thank you so so much”

Eternal Flame:

“My dress was just as I had pictured it in my head, right from a little girl. Thank you for all your hard work. Linda and the girls here are fantastic at what they do!”

Freddie & Friends New Orleans Jazz Band:

“You gentlemen are highly talented and true professional musicians. Everybody has commented on how amazing our jazz band on the lawn was. You all kept the atmosphere up and fun for all. Many thanks!”

Le Talbooth:

“We must start by thanking Alex for her initial help in the planning stages of our wedding. She was always very helpful with any questions we had, big or small. Our thanks also go to Umesh, and Richard for the great hard work on the day. To Umesh for his planning and helping with our menu and wine selection, plus for making sure our every need was taken care of and that all our guest were well on the day. To Richard for his amazing co-ordination of staff during the wedding breakfast. Of course to the team of highly skilled chefs for mouth watering food. And to all the Milsoms group staff who played a big part in making the day run so smoothly.”

“A last big special thanks goes to the crew who without them the evening party would not have been so amazing and the marquee would have not looked as it did.

Mark, Paul & Martin, your efforts very early on the day left both myself and Hayley speechless when we walked into the marquee for the entrance! We both were so over whelmed. The Guys had flown not 1, not 2, but 4! 50cm mirror balls in the roof along with 2 moving heads. more effect lighting, LED up-lighters and a black & white dancefloor, really did exceed expectations.

Thank you also to Martin for a grand job of DJing the first part of the evening, and thanks to Paul for DJing the seconds set.”

You will see from the pictures taken by Craig & Kate below that Dave & Hayley had the best day of there lives!

Le Talbooth Summer BBQ & Disco…

We were delighted to be asked to provide our DJ & disco services for a ‘Spring into Summer’ barbecue at Le Talbooth in their stunning marquee on Saturday 13th June.

A fantastic evening’s food and dancing was enjoyed by all. Our stylish and contemporary sound and lighting equipment is always much admired by clients and those from the Milsolms Group.
