GeeWizz Midsummer Ball 2018 Kesgrave Hall

We do not need magic to change the world; we need people like Gina Long, MBE and founder of GeeWIzz Foundation, to raise funds for charity by organising events like the GeeWizz Midsummer Ball.  Her success is from championing a cause greater than herself.  GeeWizz was created to help children, young adults and their families, living with disability and those affected by cancer in Suffolk and Norfolk.

The first ever GeeWizz Midsummer Ball was held this year at The Hangar, Milsoms Kesgrave Hall in Suffolk.   We, at Dreamwave Events, are proud to have offered our support.  I’m please to say the event was a more than a sound success raising nearly £50,000!

Hundreds of guests attended a glorious evening of fantastic food and exceptional entertainment.  There was music, dancing and a grand auction to be enjoyed by the all in a sunny summer setting.

How did Dreamwave support the GeeWizz Midsummer Ball?

We were sooooo pleased that Gina approached us again for our help following our previous pairings at the Fenwick and Milsoms Fashion Show in 2018 and Secret Garden Charity Ball in 2016.  Gina asked us to provide our top quality DJ equipment for Guest DJ; PA Sound Systems; our skilled Dreamwave DJ’s and insatllation of our exquisite Lighting concepts. We gladly obliged as one of their main sponsors.

 

Gina said: “We just wanted to say the BIGGEST THANK YOU for your WONDERFUL support in helping us raise £48,797  for our very special GeeWizz Charity at our Midsummer Party, on what was the most perfect Friday evening at Milsom’s Kesgrave Hall.  To say you so went above the call of duty, would be an understatement.  I am indebted to you, you really are SUPERSTARS, thank you, thank you, thank you.  The Hangar and Kesgrave Hall Gardens, looked so absolutely beautiful. Our Festoons were positioned outside in Festival style lighting hanging from tree to tree, decorated with foliage from Figa & Co, leading guests down steps to The Hangar entrance.  Selected trees were also wrapped in our Fairy Lights to further enhance the festival feel.

The festival feel event lighting continued down the steps leading to our Dreamwave designed outdoor stage wood pallet composition with a hessian backdrop.  This was additionally complemented by hanging lamps, our Wooden DJ Booth , large Vintage Blaze retro lights to add to the vibe and a stunning enrichment of foliage.  The composition of this set up completely blew me away!  On top of this, our Dreamwave DJ performed our renowned Cocktail DJ Set whilst guests arrived to upbeat festival music in the mix.

We supplied and installed lose hanging festoons in the entrance marquee and further greenery was added by Figa & Co to continue the theme.

The Main Hangar Area

The festival vibe progressed into the main Hangar area by hanging pendant lamps and foliage around the wall areas.  A simple Fairy Light design was hung to a central point.

Our specialist Dreamwave Lighting Technician controlled the lighting from our own control desk to create the inspired festive effect.

The guest DJ’s, Brandon Block and Alex P, performed their stupendous sets on our supplied DJ Equipment and Dreamwave designed Pallet Booth with one of our Dreamwave DJ’s filling the gaps.

 

All in all it was a pretty awesome day.  Judging by the amount raised the event was obviously a huge success that was enjoyed by all who attended.  We had a great time.  Thank you to Gina Long and GeeWizz for asking us to be part of the day!

Mick Pollard – Our Right Hand Handyman!

Mick is a man who knows a lot about everything.  He is our resident being in the warehouse and an invaluable member of our team.   Not only in the warehouse, he can also be founds crewing on events or with a hot brew in his palms.

What Does Mick Do at Dreamwave Events?

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – but if it is; give it to Mick! He is definitely the daddy of Dreamwave, taking care of us all.  He’s an organisational crackerjack and our warehouse wonder-man.  Mick Pollard, the master of mending is repairing the world one light bulb at a time.  He keeps all our products in tip top condition, checking each individual item carefully prior to each event, making sure it’s to the Dreamwave high standards of expectation.

Being the Lord of the warehouse, he has to be meticulous in his workings.  He always has several assignments on the go from simple painting and decorating, staying ready for the busy season to being part of implementing new lighting project designs.  Thus helping Dreamwave Events keep ahead of the game by bringing new inspirational arrangements that lead the way in wedding and party lighting and decor trends.

As Mick is pretty handy with a soldering iron, he can be found in the centre of new projects tinkering away in the warehouse.  His current work is directing him to the design of a new prototype DJ Booth to add to our current collection of DJ set upsWatch this space…..

Wivenhoe House 2018 Wedding Open Morning is happening on Sunday 24th June.   Once again this is being supported by our amazing team at Dreamwave Events.  The historical 18th Century Country House Wedding venue in Essex offers the perfect setting to get married.  It is surrounding by the undulating parkland that the Essex countryside has to offer and offers the luxury stay that should be expected from a  four-star hotel.

The weather is beginning to warm and you know that summer feeling is on its way! What does summer mean to me – Love is in the air; no wait, that’s BBQ!!!!

In 2018 Dreamwave Events are killing for the grilling at Le Talbooth Summer BBQ’s.    The venue provides the perfect setting on a blissful summers evening accompanied by their juicy BBQ cuisine of Hog Roast, Sirloin Steak, top quality Sausages, Vegetable Curry and Kebabs.  Not to forget the added extra of  salads and scrumptious desserts plus the complementary refreshing fizz or Pimms on arrival.

Sunday events start at 7pm and finish at 10.30pm.  Saturday nights start at 7pm and continue through until midnight.   At £50 per person, it’s a small price for such a fantastic evening.

How to Spot Skilled DJ’s – What makes a Skilled DJ?

I know all our guys at Dreamwave Events are at the top of their game and highly skilled DJ’s – but do you know how to clock a skilled DJ?  How do you know the DJ you have booked is the person who will bring a fantastic evening party?  I have put together a few tips to help you choose the right DJ and spot the techniques that make the so good at what they do……

 

Skilled DJ’s will Read the Dance floor

First of all, not one person wants their dance floor empty at their party.  A skilled DJ will assess their audience and play music that works for them and keep their dancing shoes alight!  A wedding DJ needs to be particularly good at this as the guests at a wedding tend to be mixed ages that will generally want certain era’s and genres of music to get them moving!  A skilled DJ will also be aware of cultural backgrounds of the wedding party and would have prepared music especially for the evening.

Keeping the dance floor full is definitely what I would want from a DJ – after all, a party is’t a party without a good boogie!

Skilled DJ’s have the Ability to get back the Crowd

Secondly, should your DJ happen to try a song that doesn’t work (and it happens to the best of them); the dancers will surely disperse! It will be well within a skilled DJ’s capabilities to switch to a song that will re-captivate the crowd quickly.  This is much more difficult than it sounds – keeping their cool whilst realising their error combined with hasty thinking to re-gather the group.

Beat-matching

A DJ can earn their stripes by showing their skills off by seamlessly synchronising the tempos of two songs.  A skilled DJ adjust pitch and time and then make beats of the two well chosen songs hit at the same time and enables a smooth transition between them.  If not done properly the beats will fall out of sync that will result in an oh so obvious blip in performance…and yes the dancers will notice!

Pitch ‘n’ Time

I just touched on this in beat-matching.  A skilled DJ can adjust the length and pitch of a song that there is a seamless transition between two tunes without affecting the quality of their performance.

 

Skilled DJ’s will give an Energetic Performance

Indeed, a DJ indisputably needs a technical edge and knowledge of music, but there ultimately is something you cant teach –  how to be energised and engaged with the crowd.  A fantastic DJ will visibly be enjoying their performance.  They will be completely committed to the party and be animated on the platform of their DJ Set.

 

Experienced, Skilled DJ’s will have a great Music Repertoire

Yeah, OK, so I included this one even thought it’s pretty obvious.   Having an awesome range of music knowledge has to be a must for every skilled DJ.  I think a DJ that has this, shows fluidity and more confidence in their performance.   Skilled DJ’s will use their knowledge to adjust their act and a great music repertoire will certainly them to adjust to the dance floor.

 

The Result……..

All the above combined will surely equal a highly skilled DJ that will execute a mind-blowing performance and give a guaranteed fantastic party that will set your dancing shoes on fire!

We at Dreamwave Events like to grow by giving.  When we were approached by Emma to sponsor her Easter Charity Ball at Stoke by Nayland Golf Club in aid of Colchester Hospital’s Neonatal Unit, we jumped at the chance to support such a worthy cause.

 

 

A bit of Back Ground for the Charity Event

Emma, the event host, wanted to raise funds as a thank you to the hospital for the amazing care her triplet daughters received a few years ago.  The Easter Charity Event is also a thank you for the past and continued care given by hospital’s amazing doctors and nurses to families with ill or premature newborns.

All monies raised will be directed to improvement of the facilities.  In particular, the unit wishes to purchase a state of the art incubator, where keeping the newborns warm will much improve their chances of survival.

What Part did we play in the Easter Charity Event?

We put our  eggs in one basket to be the headline sponsor and we naturally wanted to play a bigger role in the proceedings.  Giving is not just about making a donation, its about making a difference!  We were keen to help make this event a success; for Emma and the hospital.

Of course, one of our Dreamwave DJ’s would be in the mix, smashing the party with classic tunes.  But we also really wanted to make the venue striking with our stunning lighting and decor, creating the right atmosphere for such a hugely important charity event.

The photos speak a thousand words.  I think the combination of everyone’s efforts blew the guests away.  We supplied lighting (and lighting technician) in the way of an impressive backdrop behind the performance area, breathtaking hanging lamps and our DJ equipment to complete the room.  The lighting decor was perfectly complemented by Fairy Lights and Festoons, along with embellished chair coverings with lemon sashes by Embellish Events to complete the look.

 

 

 What Occurred?

The whole evening has a real buzz about it.  I think it has just the right balance of  happenings, that there was something for everyone and all were entertained.

9 years old today! It barely seems likes yesterday that I had my first day in our much smaller office 7 years ago.  Time has really flown and now the company is celebrating another birthday and is now almost in double figures!

Dreamwave’s Birthday – An important Milestone.

Today marks the foundation day of the business.  Every age is enchanting and the journey from Dreamwave’s birth until now has been one hell of a ride.   I caught up with the inspirations of the business, Dave and Paul and the one’s who carry the story of reaching these heights of success.

Our Story in Short

17th April 2008 was the day marked in history when Dave and Paul joined forces to form Dreamwave Events!  We saw our reputation of providing a fantastic party expand.  Alongside our experienced and approachable individuals, Dreamwave Events cultivated a strong position within the Wedding and Party DJ entertainment industry.  As we saw the business soar, Dreamwave Events naturally evolved into expanding it’s services into professional lighting where we have proved to be an unstoppable force in Essex, Suffolk, London and surrounding areas.  Our warehouse is now stacked with top quality sound and lighting equipment producing first rate installations that will knock your socks off!
